Parables of Jesus - New Wine into Old Wineskins

New Wine into Old Wineskins

Matthew 9:17

King James Version (KJV)
17 Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.

Mark 2:21-22

King James Version (KJV)
21 No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.
22 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.

Luke 5:37-39

King James Version (KJV)
37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.
38 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.
39 No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.

This parable mainly speaks about change. He said this parable, When he was questioned about Fasting. 14 Then John’s disciples came and asked him, “How is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?”
15 Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.
16 “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse.

In Matthew 6:24 NIV - Jesus said "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

So Jesus says only to serve God, and to fast when he is taken away from his disciples. Jesus also says how to fast in Matthew 6:16-18

Fasting

16 “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

So the parable teaches us a very important lesson on Change. Many things what we do as spiritual may not be so. Hence we will have to change according to the scripture.

Proverbs 16:25 There are ways which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Proverbs 21:2 NIV A person may think their own ways are right, but the LORD weighs the heart.

How not to think on our own way and how not to live in older form of life?
Jesus said in Matthew 22:37 NIV Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'

2 Chronicles 7:14NIV
if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Deuteronomy 30:19(NIV)

19 This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.

Have a Blessed Day Ahead
