On Overcoming Temptations through the Word Of God
1 Corinthians 10:13
13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is
common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond
what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so
that you can endure it.
1 Peter 5:8 (NIV)
8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil
prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
The deception is that when you are tempted, the
temptation factor falsely promises that who will obtain something precious and
nothing will happen to you. But this is what James has to say -
James 1 (NIV)
13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting
me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;
14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged
away by their own evil desire and enticed.
15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to
sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
Matthew 4
New International Version (NIV)
Jesus Is Tested in
the Wilderness
1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness
to be tempted by the devil.
2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was
hungry.
3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the
Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
4 Jesus answered, “It
is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes
from the mouth of God.”
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him
stand on the highest point of the temple.
6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw
yourself down. For it is written:
“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they
will lift you up in their hands,
so that you
will not strike your foot against a stone.”
7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.”
8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain
and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.
9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will
bow down and worship me.”
10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God,
and serve him only.”
11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and
attended him.
Jesus’s answer to the devil teaches us a very important
lesson:
1.
Our physical need is not enough to fulfill the God’s
destiny in our life. We are not to do everything people ask us to do. Do things
which are for God’s purpose only.
2.
God’s sovereignty should never should be
questioned, God does what it pleases him, we should humbly ask him to do us
favor. We should never doubt his spirit or power, but we should humbly say, I believe.
As it is said in
2 Peter 1:3 His
divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our
knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
3.
It is said Love your god with all heart, soul,
mind and strength and there should not be any other Gods, as no one could serve
both Mammoth/Money and God.
Hebrews 4
New International Version (NIV)
Jesus the Great High Priest
14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who
has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith
we profess.
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to
empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every
way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.
16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with
confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time
of need.
Matthew 6:13 (ESV)
“And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from
evil.”
James 4:7 NIV
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and
he will flee from you.
The Lord was with Joseph, who refused to go to bed with Potiphar's wife or even be with her. he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the
house. Though he was imprisoned for that, he was honored later by
the Pharaoh. As bible says in Deuteronomy
31:8 - he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or
be dismayed. Joseph's life says clearly that "Resist the devil, and he will flee from you"
For it is said that our warfare is against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms we have to be the Armor of God.
Ephesians 6:12
New International Version (NIV)
12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Ephesians 6
New International Version (NIV)
The Armor of God
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty
power.
11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take
your stand against the devil’s schemes.
12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood,
but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this
dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that
when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you
have done everything, to stand.
14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled
around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,
15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that
comes from the gospel of peace.
16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of
faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the
Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all
kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on
praying for all the Lord’s people.
19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may
be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel,
20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I
may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
Have a Spirit filled and Blessed Day Ahead
