THE BEATITUDES
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for
righteousness,
For
they shall be filled.
Proverbs 8:20
I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of
justice.
Psalm 1:6
King James Version (KJV)
6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way
of the ungodly shall perish.
Psalm 42:1
"As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my
soul for You, O God.
Righteousness:
Righteousness is one of the chief attributes of God as
portrayed in the Hebrew Bible. Its chief meaning concerns ethical conduct (for
example, Leviticus 19:36; Deuteronomy 25:1; Psalm 1:6; Proverbs 8:20). It is
used in a legal sense; while the guilty are judged, the guiltless are deemed
righteous. God's faithfulness to His covenant is also a large part of His
righteousness (Nehemiah 9:7-8).
Righteousness also relates to God's role as saviour; God
is a "righteous saviour" (Isaiah 61), and a deliverer (Isaiah
46:12-13). The righteous are those who trust that they will be vindicated by
the Lord God (Psalm 37:12-13).
Hunger and
thirst for righteousness:
No one can become righteous until and unless it given by God
through his Grace and Mercy and with our Faith and obedience. But everyone should strive to attain it and
hunger and thirst to obtain it. By doing even small act as it is said in Matt
25:31-46. Noah was a man of righteousness (Gen 6:8-18) by which God saved not only him, but also his family.
Matthew 25:31-46 (NIV)
The Sheep and the Goats
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all
the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne.
32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he
will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep
from the goats.
33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on
his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right,
‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom
prepared for you since the creation of the world.
35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you
invited me in,
36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and
you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when
did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?
38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in,
or needing clothes and clothe you?
39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to
visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever
you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for
me.’
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart
from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and
his angels.
42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I
was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink,
43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I
needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did
not look after me.’
44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you
hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and
did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did
not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but
the righteous to eternal life.”
Jesus Talks With a Samaritan Woman
John 4:1-38
New International Version (NIV)
Now Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that he
was gaining and baptizing more disciples than John—
2 although in fact it was not Jesus who baptized, but
his disciples.
3 So he left Judea and went back once more to Galilee.
4 Now he had to go through Samaria.
5 So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near
the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph.
6 Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was
from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon.
7 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus
said to her, “Will you give me a drink?”
8 (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)
9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and
I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not
associate with Samaritans.
10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God
and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would
have given you living water.”
11 “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw
with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water?
12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us
the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”
13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water
will be thirsty again,
14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never
thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water
welling up to eternal life.”
15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so
that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”
16 He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”
17 “I have no husband,” she replied.
Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you
have no husband.
18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the
man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.”
19 “Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a
prophet.
20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you
Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”
21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is
coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in
Jerusalem.
22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we
worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.
23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true
worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the
kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in
the Spirit and in truth.”
25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called
Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”
26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I
am he.”
The Disciples Rejoin Jesus
27 Just then his disciples returned and were surprised
to find him talking with a woman. But no one asked, “What do you want?” or “Why
are you talking with her?”
28 Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to
the town and said to the people,
29 “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did.
Could this be the Messiah?”
30 They came out of the town and made their way toward
him.
31 Meanwhile his disciples urged him, “Rabbi, eat
something.”
32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you
know nothing about.”
33 Then his disciples said to each other, “Could
someone have brought him food?”
34 “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him
who sent me and to finish his work.
35 Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months
until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are
ripe for harvest.
36 Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and
harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad
together.
37 Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is
true.
38 I sent you to reap what you have not worked for.
Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their
labor.”
The Rich Man and Lazarus
Luke 16:19-31 (NIV)
19 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and
fine linen and lived in luxury every day.
20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus,
covered with sores
21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s
table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels
carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried.
23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and
saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.
24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on
me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue,
because I am in agony in this fire.’
25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your
lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but
now he is comforted here and you are in agony.
26 And besides all this, between us and you a great
chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you
cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’
27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus
to my family,
28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so
that they will not also come to this place of torment.’
29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the
Prophets; let them listen to them.’
30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone
from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’
31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses
and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the
dead.’”
John 6:35 (NIV)
35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life.
Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never
be thirsty.
John 7:37 (NKJV)
37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus
stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.
John 19:28 NIV - Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I am thirsty."
Have a Righteousness filled and A Blessed Day Ahead.
