be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

John 16:33

King James Version (KJV)
33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Jesus says to cheer up when there is tribulation. What happens exactly is that an incidence in itself does nothing, but the thoughts about is, the past dwellings, the remembrance of it. To break that chain which causes us to fall off with that kind of taught is to cheer up.

Cheer up not because of the consequences, which may be devastating. Say for a failure in exam the devastating effort is to pass again, a wastage of an year, financial loss and a loss of hope. But cheer up because everything happens for a reason. The way we need to think is as Jesus taught, if we were to think of death without any reason, persecution in-spite of doing good, rejection by his own friend and tortured for being God in human flesh. We would have lost hope and told all the possibility of the wrath and the power of what we can do, but even at the last moments what Jesus does is - Washing disciples foot, healing and ministering other, praying for others - Pray, that you will not fall into temptations, asking forgiveness - "Father, Forgive them for they does not know what they are doing", crying out for help to the heavenly father "Father, why have you forsaken me?"

So to overcome this world of difficulties, failures, depression it is not easy with our own strengths, its not only those thoughts about feeling good and taking some steps to get relief for sometime, but the only way is to look at Jesus.

Hebrews 12:2

King James Version (KJV)

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Its a matter of renewing and refreshing the soul:
Hebrews 6:19 NIV
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,

We are the temple of God. We never should underestimate the cost for our righteousness that Jesus shed on the cross, we should never let go of the wonderful and amazing Grace by our simple understanding and the situations.

We should never let the situations let go of our cheerfulness, we should be cheerful even when we are giving up, when we are at the most difficult situations. God calls us to be cheerful when we are giving offerings.
2 Corinthians 9:7 NIV
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Cheer, for Jesus says to cheer. We know and are sure about the tribulations in this world, how far should not we about being cheerful at this tribulations, being sure about his word, his promise?
