Miracles of Jesus - Jesus Heals a Demon-Possessed Boy

Jesus Heals a Boy Possessed by an Impure Spirit

Matthew 17:14-21

King James Version (KJV)
14 And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,
15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

Mark 9:14-29

King James Version (KJV)
14 And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.
15 And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.
16 And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?
17 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;
18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.
19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.
20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?
29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

Luke 9:37-43

King James Version (KJV)
37 And it came to pass, that on the next day, when they were come down from the hill, much people met him.
38 And, behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee, look upon my son: for he is mine only child.
39 And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him.
40 And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not.
41 And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither.
42 And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.
43 And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples,

Jesus shows Mercy:
Jesus taught us that Mercy is to be obtained, and it can be obtained by showing Mercy to others. In the Beatitudes Jesus says: Matthew 5:7 NIV
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
In the above miracle, when the father of the child possessed by unclean spirit came kneeling down and said Lord, have mercy on my son. Jesus shows mercy by healing the son from the demon possession.
14 And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneelingdown to him, and saying,
15 Lord, have mercy on my son:

Jesus saw the situation of the Son:
The Father of the son explains the condition of the son and also what his son does -
The son is Lunatick, sore vexed.
and what he does - for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
This is not a normal condition of a human, hence his father pleaded Jesus to heal his son from this sickness.

Jesus saw the disciples:
As the father finish saying the situation and condition of his son, and what his son often does. He also says that he went to Jesus' disciples to ask for help and to heal, but they could not cure him.
16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
The problem with the disciples was unbelief and Jesus did't say anything other than saying O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.. This is because Jesus knew that without faith it is impossible to please God.

Jesus says what the power of Faith could do:
20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
Jesus encourages us to have Faith, and he also says that we need to have Faith as little as a mustard seed. Jesus says to have Faith as little as a Mustard seed and then compares what an enormous thing could happen, he then says a bigger sized object - Mountain. This signifies that the little Faith i.e mustard is enough to move much much bigger in size than that of a mustard, i.e Mountain.

Jesus teaches us about the power of Prayer and Fasting:
Jesus first teaches us that without Faith it is impossible to please God, then he also says that to rebuke such kind of unclean spirits one has to pray and fast. Prayer will enable us to have a direct relationship with the God, the Lord who created the Heaven and Earth and all that is. He listens to our prayers. Fasting is to bring us down in our spiritual stature, asking God to show mercy.
21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

The healing of the demon possessed boy by Jesus teaches us that the first thing we need to have is Faith - Hebrews 11:6 NIV
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him., Jesus shows compassion, he has mercy, he can heal and he only is the way. But yet Jesus says us to have Faith as little as a mustard seed this is because, there was a situation where the Father of the demon possessed man came to the disciples to heal, but because of the unbelief the disciples could't heal. As Jesus says, John 14:12 NIV
Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
We have to help one another. We have to trust in God and we need to have Faith as little as a mustard seed to face the situation like the disciples. Then the Giant like mountain - Problems can be removed. Jesus says whoever believes in him will be able to do even greater things than these, as he is going to the Father. There is a specific reason for him to go to the Father, John 16:7 NIV
But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
Jesus has given us an opportunity to know him more, he has given us the Holy Spirit to discern the time and all the things to know about God. He has given us the opportunity to choose. Let us not be unbelieving, let us not choose wrong things, let us not be selfish and self absorbing. But let us have Faith as little as Mustard seed, Let us start believing in Jesus Christ, Let us Pray and Fast, Let us help one another, Let us Forgive one another, Let us Do as according to the will of the Father's.

HAVE A GREAT AND BLESSED DAY AHEAD
