Miracles of Jesus - Jesus Heals a Crippled Woman on the Sabbath

Woman, of eighteen years' infirmity, cured

Luke 13:10-17

King James Version (KJV)
10 And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.
11 And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.
12 And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.
13 And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.
14 And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.
15 The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?
16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?
17 And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

Jesus healing a crippled woman on the Sabbath has very important lesson for our lives:

Jesus saw the condition of the woman:
She had a spirit of infirmity: Its a mental or spiritual weakness bound by satan.
For Eighteen Years: Eighteen years is a long period of time. She might have tried all the ways to overcome it.

The spirit of infirmity had an effect on her physical body:
and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.
making her bowed: Has to be bowed all the time, it might have hindered for any of her work. People might have looked down on her.
She was not able to lift up herself: By no means she could do anything for her infirmity.

Jesus heals her first by saying:
12 And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.
By saying the words "Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity." Jesus affirms that she is freed from the satan's bound. By saying this miraculous word Jesus makes it very clear - First the bound with satan has to be removed, then comes the physical healing. So Secondly Jesus lays his hand and heals the physical sickness. 13 And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.

Healing on Sabbath Day:
Jesus heals this women on Sabbath Day -
14 And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people,
There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.

Jesus again says that the women healed is worth much more than these animals, ox and ass. The process of healing her is more important than loosing one of these animals for them to have water. Jesus valued her thirst for a healing, as he was God he knew it even before she could say anything about it. Jesus didn't ask her for to know what the problem was nor did he asked her what healing she needed. But straightaway he healed the spiritual and also the physical need.

Shame and Rejoice:
The answer that Jesus gave for the ruler of the synagogue made his to be ashamed, and the same answer made the people rejoice. The rulers were ashamed because they came to know the truth about their belief system and that was not according to the God. People rejoiced because they got to know have God views them, not putting them down and knowing their needs & requirements even before they ask.

17 And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

The miracle of healing this crippled woman on the sabbath teaches us that God views all of us with a different point of view than what we view for over selves.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Jesus does this miracle on sabbath again show that he is "Lord of the Sabbath".
Matthew 12:8 (NIV)

8 For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”

The woman who had the satan's bound, had it for a long time. Jesus knew the bounds and he know when to loose them those who are bound by satan. He knows the perfect time to heal. The woman had patience and she endured the sufferings for a long time. But Jesus bought freedom from such infirmity, she glorified God and the people rejoiced by knowing the truth.

God makes every crooked ways straight, and he looses every bounds.
Isaiah 45:2 NIV

I will go before you and will level the mountains; I will break down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron.

HAVE A BLESSED AND GREAT DAY AHEAD
