You be the Judges!

Acts 4:19-20

New International Version (NIV)
19 But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! 20 As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”

Peter and John said this to emphasis that what they were doing was God's will - Preaching the word of God, which is right in God's eyes.

Jesus said - "Judge not and you will not be Judge" -

Luke 6:37

King James Version (KJV)
37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

Jesus said this and also said that we are not to condemn and we are to forgive one another. These sayings mainly goes with those we hate and those who are our enemies. Just after the disciples eat with their bare hands on sabbath day and the pharisees question about the following of the law on sabbath and on an other instance when Jesus heals the withered hand man on sabbath - The pharisees question about the Judgement.

On an other instance Jesus said, “You have judged correctly,”

Luke 7:43

New International Version (NIV)
43 Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.”
“You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.

Jesus said this to Simon after Simon answers a question about the forgiveness of debts of two debtors.

Luke 7

New International Version (NIV)

Jesus Anointed by a Sinful Woman

36 When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. 37 A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. 38 As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.
39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.”
40 Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.”
“Tell me, teacher,” he said.
41 “Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.42 Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”
43 Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.”
“You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.
44 Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”
48 Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
49 The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
50 Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

So, either in the first instance when Jesus says don't Judge or the other instance when Simon Judges and Jesus says "You have rightly Judged". Jesus portrays us that what we Judge and how we Judge matters the most.

When people may question about our faith in Lord Jesus, They may find it different from their faith and they may Judge as accordingly, there may be circumstances where we will be made to Judge on other's faith, we ought to be careful in these matters.

For Christ Jesus himself says:

John 12:47-48

New International Version (NIV)
47 “If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day.

Let us pray that we fall not into Judgment that will bring us dishonor in front of God for our bad deeds, neither let us Judge someone for their mistakes on us. But we pray that "Father have mercy on me for my wrongs", Forgive me also for wrongly Judging the fellow beings. Enable us to love one another without any conditions, not taking revenge nor being silent, but to open our mouth and ask you to do as according to your will.

John 3:18

New Living Translation (NLT)
18 “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son.
