Miracles of Jesus - Jesus Walks on the Sea

Merry Christmas

Christmas is:

Joy to the World
Light to the World
Peace to the World

Matthew 14:22-33

King James Version (KJV)
22 And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
23 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.
24 But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.
25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
32 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

Mark 6:45-52

King James Version (KJV)
45 And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people.
46 And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.
47 And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land.
48 And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.
49 But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out:
50 For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.
51 And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.
52 For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.

John 6:15-21

King James Version (KJV)
15 When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.
16 And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea,
17 And entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them.
18 And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew.
19 So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid.
20 But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.
21 Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went.

Jesus Went apart to pray:
The lessons on solititude -

You are never alone, for God says:
Hebrews 13:5 (NIV)
“Never will I leave you;
    never will I forsake you.”

Psalm 27:10 NIV Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me.

The Waves will be contrary:
We can certainly rely upon God and his words, but we have to rely completely on his word. This may sometime looks to like contrary for our thinking,
In the above miracle - when Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side...
the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.

Isaiah 55:8 NIV
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD.

When Jesus said to forgive the sinners rather than punishing them according to the law.. it looked like the contrary who only walked in law.
The example of the women caught in adultry, the parable of the two debtors, the lost son.. etc.,

Jesus walking on the sea is contrary:
As far as the human can understand no one ever can walk on the water, no one other than Jesus.
And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
The verse doesn't even emphasis on the fact that Jesus walked on the sea. It was just told as if Jesus walked on a flat surface. Because the
writer is inspired by the holy spirit to write such words.

The disciple's normal reaction:
And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
They first saw... then they were troubled... finally cried out for fear.

Jesus' response for their reaction:
"Be of good cheer"
An encouragement for the one who wonders what he saw... for the one who is troubled by what he saw that it was impossible and finally for those who
cryout in fear.

it is I; be not afraid.
Jesus' message for the world is this... as humans each and everyone of us have fallen short of the grace of God due to our sins. but, God is merciful
for he says not to be afraid. He is always with us, he will be there always for us. In old testament, when Joseph went into prision for a fales
accussation, God was with him.

Peter's experience:
Each and everyone of us can walk in our faith and not by sight. Each and everyone of us can do miracles - Jesus said in John 14:12 NIV
Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
Peter was one among the disciples who first took an initative to ask Jesus if he can also walk on water...
Hebrews 11:6 NIV
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Jesus did say to him - Come, when he asked  Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
Even today God calls us to do many things which we never will be able to do without faith, but if we choose to ignore or limit it, it will have an enmorous concenquences
in our lives, hence it is always best to remember that God is always with us, that he will never leave us nor forshake us.

Now faith without work is death.

Merry Christmas
