Parables of Jesus - Parable of the Wedding Feast

Parable of the Wedding Feast

Luke 14:7-14

King James Version (KJV)
And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them.
When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;
And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.
10 But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.
11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
12 Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.
13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:
14 And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

God at various times in the bible told that the proud will be put down, and the humble will be brought up. Humility is such an act God loves. Therefore humbling ourselves before God is an act of surrender and an act of worship.
Proverbs 3:34 GNT

34 He has no use for conceited people, but shows favor to those who are humble.
James 4:6 (GNT)

6 But the grace that God gives is even stronger. As the scripture says, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

1 Peter 5:5

Good News Translation (GNT)
In the same way you younger people must submit yourselves to your elders. And all of you must put on the apron of humility, to serve one another; for the scripture says, “God resists the proud, but shows favor to the humble.”

In the parable Jesus says to take up the lower seats even though you hold a higher position. This he said because, If there comes someone who is even higher than you, you will be put to shame. Pride is something which many of us are unaware of, but its consequences are sure, hence its always better to examine ourselves and to be humble.
2 Corinthians 13:5 NIV

Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you--unless, of course, you fail the test?
Because there is no higher power or authority than God.Philippians 2:10 NIV
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

Then again Jesus said that,
When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.
13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:
14 And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

This statement shows that Jesus observed the facts of life. If you call unto a rich for dinner, you may expect something in return or he may have to give something in return. But if you call a poor, you do with whole heatedly without expecting anything in return.

Have A Blessed Day Ahead
