Matthew 8:2-4
New King James Version (NKJV)
Jesus Heals a Man With Leprosy
2 And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”
3 Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
4 And Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”
Mark 1:40-45
New King James Version (NKJV)
Jesus Cleanses a Leper
40 Now a leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.”
41 Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.” 42 As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed. 43 And He strictly warned him and sent him away at once, 44 and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing those things which Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”
45 However, he went out and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread the matter, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter the city, but was outside in deserted places; and they came to Him from every direction.
Luke 5:12-15
New King James Version (NKJV)
Jesus Cleanses a Leper
12 And it happened when He was in a certain city, that behold, a man who was full of leprosy saw Jesus; and he fell on his face and implored Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”13 Then He put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately the leprosy left him.14 And He charged him to tell no one, “But go and show yourself to the priest, and make an offering for your cleansing, as a testimony to them, just as Moses commanded.”
15 However, the report went around concerning Him all the more; and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities.
This Miracle of Jesus cleansing a Leper has a very meaningful lesson on our life:
There are a number of ways to look into the Miracle, concentrating on the Leper, Jesus and the crowd are as follows:
The first and foremost thing the leper did once he saw Jesus was:
He came and worshiped Him,
imploring Him, kneeling down to Him,
and he fell on his face and implored Him,
This is an act of complete submission, an act of showing respect, an act of total surrender.
The Second thing the leper did was:
He was said, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”
This shows that he just does not want to be clean for his own purpose, but asks Jesus “Lord, if You are willing" - This is the prayer for the complete submission, In the first instance when the leper fell down, worshiped him, implored him, it was an act and now when he said about the will, this is the prayer. Jesus when he prays at THE LORD's Prayer - Matthew 6:10 NIV "your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." When he prayed at Gethsemane, he said -Mat 26:39 "Yet not as I will, but as you will." It is the prayer asking God the Father to do according to his will and not our own.
In The Third Instance Jesus acts out of compassion:
The First thing Jesus did was:
HE moved with compassion,
put out His hand,
stretched out His hand,
touched him,
One of the most important aspect of Jesus is he moves out with compassion, His loving heart which cares for the least of the world, he looked at this leper as much as he looked at any other person. Everyone hesitates to go near a leper - but Jesus put out His hand and touched him. This shows that Jesus' quality of God,
Luke 4:18 NIV "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.
Luke 6:20 NIV Looking at his disciples, he said: "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
The Fourth Instance, Jesus acknowledges the leper and Heals with his words:
After moved with compassion and put out his hand and touched the leper, Jesus says “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. This acknowledges Jesus' willingness to heal the leper. This shows the power of the Word Of Jesus. Just a word is enough, because he his holy, he is faithful to the heavenly father, because he is God himself.
John 10:30 NIV "I and the Father are one."
1 Timothy 3:16 "God was manifest in the flesh"
Faith in God is an ongoing process, Its an everlasting relationship, the Love of God is forever. After the healing: And Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”
Jesus said the leper not to tell anyone, this is because of the crowd who does not believe in God, that they wont believe in the Miracle and oppose Jesus.
As the leper was cleansed, he was told to go and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them. Now this is the right way to acknowledge the miracle that Jesus did at that place, and those who believed in him would accept the gift he offers and believe in his testimony. But the leper went out and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread the matter, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter the city, but was outside in deserted places; and they came to Him from every direction.
Only at the last instance the leper fails, that is to keep the secret of the miracle as Jesus said. Hence it is very important to continue in faith and do everything that pleases God. Not to leave even the least aspect in the Gospel. As James says:
James 2:10 ASV
For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one [point], he is become guilty of all.
Have A Great Day Ahead
