First miraculous draught of fishes
Luke 5:1-11
King James Version (KJV)
Four Fishermen Called as Disciples
5 And it came to pass, that,
as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of
Gennesaret,
2 And saw two ships standing
by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their
nets.
3 And he entered into one of
the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little
from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
4 Now when he had left
speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets
for a draught.
5 And Simon answering said
unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing:
nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
6 And when they had this
done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
7 And they beckoned unto
their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help
them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
8 When Simon Peter saw it, he
fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O
Lord.
9 For he was astonished, and
all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:
10 And so was also James, and
John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto
Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.
11 And when they had brought
their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.
The miracle here teaches us some of the very valuable
lessons for life:
Listening to
the word of God:
The people pressed upon him to hear the word of God. That is they dedicated their time to listen to
the word of God, they were interested to listen what Jesus has to say, they trusted
in his words, as the word of God. They were blessed by the Word of God through Jesus.
Miracle happens
only when you obey God:
As Jesus taught the people
out of the ship. 4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch
out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
Though he at first says the situation, 5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have
toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: then realizing whom he was
speaking to, he said nevertheless at thy word I
will let down the net.
6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
7 And they beckoned unto
their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help
them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
When everything
fails, don’t forget God still remains:
Sometimes due to the astonishment of God’s grace and
mercy some of us feel little uncomfortable and may fell down at Jesus’ knees
and say “I am unworthy, I am a sinful man”.
8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
At the beginning of the miracle, when Jesus stood by the
lake of gennesaret, these fishermen were washing the net. All the night they
toiled and they got nothing, as Simon says,
Master, we have toiled all
the night, and have taken nothing:
We might have tried everything to work on our way and we
end up defeated, failures and troubles. What we have to do is this, as God’s
word always encourages – It always says us to be encouraged with the word, It
says Jesus never will forget nor forsake us. Our courage is to cast the net out
again where we have failed, just by believing Jesus, his words as like Simon - nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
So that we can experience great multitude of fishes that break
the net and fill our ships, so that they began to sink.
Trust in God,
he will make you fisher of Men:
When our Hope, our Trust, our Belief is in Jesus. He
first acknowledges our Faith by saying “Fear not”.
That is what he said to Simon, when he fell down at Jesus’
knees and said Depart from me; for I am a sinful
man, O Lord.
Then Jesus assures him not to fear anything or any man by
saying: from henceforth thou shalt catch men.
To forsake all,
everything and to follow Jesus:
It did not take these men hours or days or years to
forsake everything, just after they reached the edge of the lake the Bible says
they forsook all, and followed him. 11 And when
they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.
That should be our conviction, rather than to wait for the
next miracle to happen. We should forsake all. And follow Jesus.

Luke 14:27 TNIV
And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me
cannot be my disciple.
Have A Great Day Ahead.
