Delighting in the Lord

Delighting in the Lord means - Walking in his ways, obeying his word, being truthful with God.

Psalm 37:4

New International Version (NIV)
Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Now its not that whatever our heart desires he gives us, he gives us when we delight in him and when we delight in him that means our hearts are bound to ask and receive the things that are of his will. Many of us have taken this aspect of the request into materialistic things. James says :

James 4:3

New International Version (NIV)
When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

So what it means to delight in the lord mean?

To seek his kingdom and righteousness first.

Its not that God wants us to be away from all the earthly things, thats why Jesus says in the next verse - and all these things shall be added unto you.
These things shall be added unto us, rather than seeking, searching, struggling or working or worrying about these things we ought to seek his kingdom and righteousness and that is the delight that God wants us to have. As Jesus continues to say in the next verse as to how the pagans run after these things and where to store up our treasures.

Matthew 6:21

New International Version (NIV)
21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Delight means to desire to be with him.
Psalm starts with the verses that guides us to be with Godly people if we were to have success - This is Delight - Delight is in the law of the Lord, meditating on his law day and night.

Psalm 1
Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
    whatever they do prospers.
Psalm 84:10 NIV

Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

Delight because of Salvation and his righteousness:
God has given us the delight that we have been saved us from the sin. The soul which would have been wasted, rusted and thrown away into the darkness was now not only saved, but rejoices in God.
Isaiah 61:10 NIV
I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

Delight because of Walking in his word:

Isaiah 26:8

New International Version (NIV)
Yes, Lordwalking in the way of your laws,
    we wait for you;
your name and renown
are the desire of our hearts.

HAVE A GREAT AND BLESSED DAY AHEAD
