Deaf and dumb man healed
Mark 7:31-37 KJV
31 And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon,
he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.
32 And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his
speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him. 33 And he took him aside
from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched
his tongue; 34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him,
Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. 35 And straightway his ears were opened, and the
string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain. 36 And he charged them
that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a
great deal they published it; 37 And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He
hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to
speak.
Jesus healing the deaf and dumb has very important lesson
for our lives:
Jesus saw their
faith:
As Jesus was departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon,
he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.
32 And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an
impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.
They bring unto him – Because they believed that only
Jesus can heal the sickness of deaf and other illnesses. Jesus saw their faith.
As these people not only bought out themselves but also others, they were
concerned about others. They believed and obeyed the word of God. That is to
help one another, to help the sick and to heal them in the presence of the
Almighty God.
Jesus said
Ephphatha – “that is, Be opened”:
Speech and Hearing are most important gifts of God. The
one to express our gratitude to the heavenly father, to praise and glorify him,
to encourage and motivate people, we know the power of words –
Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV)
Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
And those who love it will eat its fruit.
James 3:10 NIV
Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My
brothers and sisters, this should not be.
So Jesus by all the means and measures he used his speech
to either motivate and to bless people and never to curse nor to say anything
that demotivates, here in the miracle as we could see Matthew has given us a
deeper understanding by letting us know the real meaning by giving the word Ephphatha
– “that is, Be opened”:
34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto
him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.
Jesus the power
and wisdom of God:
Jesus did the miracle with the power and wisdom of God,
God alone can do this. The power is required because he is the creator, he
alone can do such miracle – also he is pure and holy. Wisdom is required to
discern what the result of the miracle could do. Today this miracle has given
us an Idea about who Jesus is and what he could do to our life. Jesus discerned
these things by the spirit of God.
35 And straightway his ears were opened, and the string
of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.
“Jesus alone
can do it”
No one else in the world has ever been like Jesus. Many
false prophets have come into the world to deceive and to redirect to another
way. But Jesus did all the miracles to glorify God and to make us a way to our
Father in Heaven – which is Jesus himself as he says “I am the way”.
37 And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done
all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.
The above miracle of Jesus healing the deaf and dumb
enables us to understand Jesus much better that he is always there for our
help. The gift of life and the hope of a better future are always fulfilled
with his promises. We can always rely upon him because he cares for us, he
created us to Love us, and he loves us because he has created us for that
purpose. This New Year let his love and comfort delight us our souls and we
have to never forget that if “The God created this world could love us, there
is nothing more that we require”. His love is enough, it covers all sins - 1
Peter 4:8 NIV
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers
over a multitude of sins.
Hebrews 8:12 NIV
For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember
their sins no more."
Romans 5:6-8 (KJV)
6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time
Christ died for the ungodly.
7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet
peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while
we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you;
he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
