Analogy of Jesus Christ - The Narrow and Wide Gates - True and False Prophets

Matthew 7:13-20

New International Version (NIV)

The Narrow and Wide Gates

13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

True and False Prophets

15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

Jesus analyses the sinful behavior and righteousness by saying that many are willing to go where the gate is wide and the road that leads to destruction. First it is the gates that Jesus refers to, we choose whether we need to go in the wide or narrow gate.

In Ecclesiastes 8:11 NIV
When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, people's hearts are filled with schemes to do wrong.

Jesus even when he warns the rich, when he analyses how much it is difficult for the rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven,

Matthew 19:23-24

New International Version (NIV)
23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

On true and false prophets, Jesus said even in - Matthew 10:16
(NIV)
16 “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.

Galatians 6:7 NIV

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

1 John 4:1 NIV

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

James 1:22 (KJV)

22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
