Analogy of Jesus Christ - Giving to the Needy - Prayer - Fasting

Matthew 6

New International Version (NIV)

Giving to the Needy

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Prayer

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
“This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Fasting

16 “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Matthew chapter 6 starts with the instructions on charity, Jesus says when you do the charity or when you help the poor, do not announce it in the crowd to make them know that you are doing good. But Jesus says to do it secretly. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Jesus says don not let a part of the body, i.e left hand know what your right hand is doing. Say if you give charity or help the poor, you should not know that you are doing good, but rather say "Heavenly Father feeds them, helped then, supported them". i.e Glorify the Father in Heaven.

Even when Praying, Jesus teaches us - how we ought to Pray. Jesus says not to pray like hypocrites. Jesus says that even before we ask God anything, he knows our needs. Paul says to Ephesians 3:20-21 (NKJV)
20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
After Jesus says how to pray and also teaches the prayer. Jesus insists about forgiveness, though he taught us in the prayer - Forgive us our sins as we forgive all those who have sinned against us", Jesus again says 14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Jesus also says about Fasting - Jesus says that the secret for success is what we do in secret. When no one notices us or what we do when everyone notices. Do we glorify God in every aspect of our life or is there any area left.
Jesus lived a life that cannot be lived by any other. Sinless, blameless.
A perfect life like Jesus is a constant process and we could never be able to attain it until and unless we ask him.
