Gifts that God gives each of us, some say it as talents, some others as abilities, skills, etc. But how to discover which gift you are gifted with? Because there are chances that most of the time we don't recognize the gift and the giver.
Why it is important to know what gifts we have?
Because there is a possibility of either using it for the wrong purpose or not knowing the gift itself lead to an unintended living, a life wasted.
In the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14–30 Jesus tells that the one who did not use his talent has wasted his life (could have at least invested in the bank denotes that at least he could have used his talents which he had).
The problem of allocation: God does not give the gifts equally to everyone, that seems to be the simple way to say that God is Judging correctly, because with the exact gifts offered to each person, the expected result or the outcome could be easily understood. But God does not go with that logic of equal allocation, rather the Spiritual Gifts stands in one aspect called "Abilities".

Romans 12:6-8Living Bible (TLB)
6 God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, then prophesy whenever you can—as often as your faith is strong enough to receive a message from God. 7 If your gift is that of serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, do a good job of teaching. 8 If you are a preacher, see to it that your sermons are strong and helpful. If God has given you money, be generous in helping others with it. If God has given you administrative ability and put you in charge of the work of others, take the responsibility seriously. Those who offer comfort to the sorrowing should do so with Christian cheer.
