Work Of Jesus

The Work here specifically means, "What Jesus did on being a Man?". Because "Work" per God's intention was to Bless when God said,
Gen 1:28
God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

So, the Work God intended was to Bless the Humans by giving them an opportunity to "Be Fruitful, Increase in number, Fill the earth and subdue it". It is the work of a Master(God) Servant(Human) relationships, God wanted the Human to be a Good Steward of the Resources the God provided him, but eventually the "Fall of Man" created the whole chaos and led to curse, which is when God said,
Gen 3:17 To Adam he said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat from it,' "Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life.

But the curse that was imposed on human was abolished, when Christ took the curse upon him. This is the Work of Jesus on the Cross.
The Work of Jesus can't be fully understood, as Jesus was not only a human but also God. God's plan may be like a big circle drawn, our human efforts will be nothing but dots and figures etc inside this bug circle.
It's the combination of the Soverginity of God and freewill of human. Though some of us are insignificant in this world God uses us for his Glory. If we align with God's purpose for our life, it's when what David says,
Psalm 37:4
Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

The Work of Jesus was already prepared. Revelation 13:8 the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world.

Understanding the work of Jesus. Though Jesus was fully God, he was fully human, it's impossible to even imagine how a human could live a sinless, pure and holy life. It was from the beginning each and every aspect of Jesus was Pure and Holy, From his Birth, to the Ministry he didn't give any opportunity for sin to conquer or rule over him.

John 14:30-31 New International Version (NIV)

30 I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, 31 but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me.

Work of Jesus was necessary.

By being obedient to the Heavenly Father and to the early parents. 12th year when Jesus was in Temple, he questioned the priests. He grew in wisdom and stature is a profound statement like how Enoch was said to be walking with God and taken up. In his ministry. Trials and Temptations. Healing and deliverances, speach and chinab commands. His works leads is to understand two things, that Jesus is God and he wants us to work like him. If its possible to him, it's possible to me. Not because of my strength, but because of his promise.

Work on cross
His work can't be replaced by any of our good work or deeds. It's why we have been given Faith instead of Work. Ephesians 2:8-10: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Work according to James

James 2:14-26 New King James Version (NKJV)

Faith Without Works Is Dead

14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does itprofit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your[a] works, and I will show you my faith by my[b] works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?[c] 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”[d] And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.
25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
